Local Mall In Istanbul Shelters Stray Dogs During A Snowstorm
Istanbul is one of the cities in Europe that has a huge stray dog population. The population of homeless dogs in Istanbul is estimated to be around 150,000. However, despite having a massive number, Istanbul shelters stray dogs during winter.
The kind citizens of Turkey do not mind seeing the homeless four-legged creatures walking on the streets. People even feed the homeless dogs and give them shelter especially during harsh weather conditions.
Homeless Dogs Have A Warm Place To Sleep During Wintertime
One of the major malls in Istanbul has decided to give the homeless dogs a warm place to sleep during wintertime.
The Atrium Mall located in Bakirkoy had opened its doors to the stray dogs so that they wouldn’t freeze to death during a snowstorm. Bakirkoy is a municipality located on the eastern side of Istanbul.
Volunteers Supply Blankets And Food
Volunteers help in keeping the dogs warm and safe by bringing in blankets and food. As much as they wanted to stay with the dogs during the snowstorm, they also had to go home to attend to their families’ needs.
One woman volunteer even fed the dogs one by one. She requested not to be named because she did that to keep the dogs safe and not to be famous.
On the photo that became viral in Turkey, it could be seen that the dogs were sleeping on a carton and they were properly spaced away from each other. The mall had also left some lights for the dog for extra warmth for the night.
It was very obvious in the photo that the dogs were happy and contented inside the Atrium Mall.
It is a heartwarming sight for other people to see that homeless dogs are well-taken cared of in Istanbul. Despite being a stray, they deserve to have the necessities: food, shelter, and veterinary care. We do hope that there will come a time that there will be no more stray dogs and they are all living comfortable lives alongside their human families.
