Al Trovinger from Mobile, Alabama was with his family when they got stuck on the Jubilee Parkway. An accident occurred on the viaduct bridge, and the traffic got halted. Nothing was moving for almost a mile. As there was nothing they could do, the whole family waited.
But after more than half an hour, their pet, a dog named River, started to become fidgety. This was a sign that she needed to take a potty break. Al was more than happy to take her outside so he could stretch his legs as well. So he put the dog’s leash on, and they went for a short walk.
Excited about being outside after a long time inside a cramped car, River jumped over the bridge railing. The force of his weight snapped the collar of her neck. She dropped into the water below.
Struggling
River did not get any injury, but she was having difficulty keeping afloat. For the next ten minutes, Al panicked, waiting for help to arrive. The authorities had been called by that time, but it was taking too long for them to get there. When it was apparent that his pet would drown, Al jumped off the bridge to save the pooch.
When the panicking dog saw his owner by his side, she tried to climb over him. But that put both of them in even more danger. Thankfully Al was able to get her off and pull the pooch towards a nearby boat launch.
A man’s love for his dog
When they got near the launch, the responders were already waiting for them. The crowd erupted in cheers when Al and his pet were taken out of the water. Paramedics checked on them, and both were lucky to have emerged from the ordeal unscathed.
A lot of people lauded Al for his heroic act. They saw how clearly he loves his dog. The devoted owner risked his own life to save his pup.
