Dots was only three months old when he was found as a stray. He was rescued from the streets and brought to a shelter located in Titusville, Florida.
Despite growing up without any human compassion and love, the puppy with a slightly protruding lower jaw was friendly and sociable. The staff grew to love him right away.
The white pup was fun-loving and had a great personality, that is why the staff were baffled why no one wanted to adopt him. They showed him to a lot of visitors, but they seemed to never see his good side. The days turned into months, then years. He became the shelter’s longest resident.
More than 800 days
The shelter staff and volunteers made sure that Dots never felt unloved. They would frequently play with him and even let him stay in their office. They didn’t want him to feel lonely in his kennel. Their social media team also frequently featured the dog on their Facebook page to give him exposure.
A woman named Liz Shidler, a local resident who was new to fostering shelter animals, came across Dots’ photo one day. She had never considered permanent adoption before, but when she read about Dots’ story, she felt really sad for her.
He has been in the animal facility for more than 800 days already.
Finally a family
After watching several videos featuring Dots, Liz talked to his boyfriend, Chris, and showed him the dog in action. She felt that the poor pooch would fit right in with them, and he agreed. Liz wasted no time and got in touch with the shelter staff. They scheduled a meeting right away.
Just as Liz thought, she and Dots made an instant connection. That very same day, she took the pup home. And just like that, his life as a shelter dog ended. He can now look forward to a life of comfort and happiness filled with kisses and belly rubs.
