A Deaf Rescue Pitbull Dog Called Oscar Had A Bizarre Habit That His Family Liked To Call ‘Slothing’
An animal control officer found an abandoned Pitbull in really bad shape. The deaf rescue Pitbull had severe infections on his body. Discharges had crusted over his eyes, and he walked with a bad limp. He was also very withdrawn that the shelter placed him on the euthanasia list.
Oscar’s Ear Infection Was Incurable
A nonprofit rescue organization called Bullied Breeds Rescue learned about the Pitbull, whom they named Oscar and checked him out to see if they could still help him. The organization took a chance and provided medical care. However, they found out that his ear infection was incurable. The only thing left to do was total ear ablation surgery.
The doctors removed all parts of his ear during the surgical procedure. Oscar became totally deaf, but it did not seem to bother him at all. His deafness did not hinder him from interacting with others.
They put him up for adoption as soon as he was well enough. A couple named Kristin and Ryan took him in. Oscar lived with another rescue Pitbull named Ramona and a cat named Sprite.
Oscar’s Bizarre Habit
Kristin noticed that Oscar had a bizarre habit. He enjoyed things that tickle or graze his face and his whole body. He would very slowly walk through it as if soaking up all the good vibes. His foster family noticed this, too, and they liked to call it slothing.
Oscar’s family let him indulge in his favorite activity, so they set up slothing posts around the house and in the yard. The posts could be a blanket with tassels, yarn hanging from dowels, or a rack where vines could hang. They even planted a garden for him to sloth through.
The Deaf Rescue Pitbull Dog Is Now Living A Happy Life
Oscar was now living a full life with Kristin and Ryan. They affectionately nicknamed him Ham because he resembled a ham cartoon. He was the final piece that completed their family. They could not imagine their life without him.
