Little Bambi, the beloved family dog ran away and became lost. Unbelievably the lost dog was found after 4 years 100 miles from home. A re-homed dog, the family had her since she was about 1 year old. She became a treasured member of the family.
However, it It was not the first time Bambi had run away. But the family in Lansing always found her and brought her home.
Weeks were spent searching. They gave up hope they would ever see their beloved pet of 12 years again. The thought of Bambi being stolen was upsetting for the family. Alternatively, they feared she was lost in the city and could starve and die.
One day, four years later the family received a phone call.
Bambi had been found 100 miles away from home in Toledo.
Found wandering in the streets by a police officer, Bambi was taken to the Lucas County Canine Care and Control Center in Toledo. Luckily the dog had a microchip which on scanning displayed the family’s contact details.
Staff at the Lucas County Canine Care and Control Center were amazed the dog had made it all the way to Toledo. They wondered where she had been for the 4 years. Her sweet gentle nature endeared the staff at the center.
The dog’s owners in Lansing were contacted by a staff member at the Lucas County Canine Care and Control Center. Overjoyed the family found it hard to believe Bambi had been found.
At the Lucas County Canine Care and Control Center the family walked past the cages with dogs looking for Bambi.
She was not recognizable.
However, they saw the markings on her muzzle. Then there was the familiar greeting howl that was distinctive. She was disheveled, scared and very thin. But she seemed to recognize the family.
A lost dog found after 4 years Bambi is finally home. She is getting all the attention and love she needs. Slowly she is adjusting back into family life again. Her health is also improving from the good nutrient food she is eating. And as a result her weight is increasing. Moreover Bambi has remembered some of her old tricks.
Everyone is amazed she is back home.
All would love to know about her travels and experiences living on the streets. The Lucas County Canine Care and Control Center staff said the story about Bambi shows the importance of micro-chipping pets. Also for people to take the time to bring stray dogs to the center for scanning.
People tend to disregard stray dogs thinking they do not have a family and home. Yet not all stray dogs are homeless, they can be just lost and want to be reunited with their owner. If the dog has a micrchip, then staff at the Lucas County Canine Care and Control Center can locate the owner more often than not.
