Dogs can definitely do so many things for us. They can be our stress-relievers, our source of happiness and love, or our constant companions and best friends. But do you know that they can also be our saviors? A hero dog?
In the Philippines, a two-year-old Dachshund named Rover who made the local news. Rover is a hero dog who saved his family not once but twice from danger. Without Rover the family could have suffered life threatening harm. His fur parents, Sarah and Annex Codilla, together with their two daughters, could not thank him enough, and they feel blessed to have Rover in their family.
On January 24, 2021, early in the morning while everyone was sleeping, Rover barked continuously. He usually sleeps with his fur parents, and so they heard him right away. However, they did not mind him at first, thinking he would eventually stop.
But Rover continued to bark, and for some reason, he went back and forth to their refrigerator. He also tried to wake up his fur parents using his snout. Eventually, they decided to check the commotion and realized that Rover was waking them up because the house was almost on fire.
It turned out their refrigerator outlet overheated, and smoke already enveloped the whole house. The burnt smell was already strong, so Sarah immediately unplugged the refrigerator. If not for Rover, the house would surely be on fire. As a reward, Rover’s fur parents bought him his favorite food, fried chicken.
Before this incident, Rover also did another heroic act. On January 12, 2021, Rover was on their terrace, his usual playing spot. He was with Annex’s daughters, and everything seemed normal until suddenly Rover started barking and scratching at something as if trying to send it away.
Annex’s youngest daughter saw a snake, and Rover was trying to ward it off, so she called Sarah and Annex for help. When they came, they saw that the snake was already weak because Rover bit and scratched it. If not for the pup, the snake could have bit Annex’s daughters. Brave boy, Rover!
According to Annex, they love Rover so much, and they treat him like their third child. No wonder Rover would also be willing to save them even if it would be dangerous on his part.
